Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent free barium from decreasing by continuously feeding a current not less than a rated surrent to a heater of an oxide cathode after activation of the oxide cathode unitl a hermetic sealing process. CONSTITUTION:At time t0, a heater of an oxide cathode is turned on to start an activation process, and the current is increased in steps, being kept at, e.g., 0.3A for one minute, 0.79A for one minute, and 0.87A for three minutes. During this time, the oxide cathode is heated up to about 900-950 deg.C. Then, the heater current is lowered to 0.81A and is kept there for two minutes, and the activation process is finished at time t1. Next, a current of 0.7A larger than a rated current of 0.68A is kept conducting for 20min unitl time t2 when a hermetic sealing process is to be started. Thus, the temperature of the oxide cathode is maintained at about 750 deg.C unitl the hermetic sealing process is started, and free barium generated by activation can be prevented from decreasing.
