Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the titled baking type compsn. having excellent rust inhibiting properties and adhesion to the surfaces of metals, consisting of a specified compsn., ammonium or amine salt of phosphoric acid and an aminoplast resin.
CONSTITUTION: A bisphenol type epoxy resin contg. an average of 1W2 carboxyl groups per molecule and having a number-average MW of 1,400 or higher is reacted with an acrylic polymer having carboxyl groups in a hydrophilic solvent at 60W170°C for 10minW2hr to produce a resin contg. excessive carboxyl groups. Said resin is partially neutralized with ammonia or an amine, and then dispersed in an aq. medium to produce a compsn. Then 0.1W10pts.wt. salt obtd. by at least partially neutralizing phosphoric acid with ammonia or an amine, and 0W 20pts.wt. aminoplast resin are blended with 100pts.wt. (on a solid basis) said compsn. to produce a coating compsn. This compsn. exhibits excellent film performance when the compsn. is baked at 150W250°C for 1W30min for driying.
