Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce a polymer having a good balance among physical properties such as impact resistance and rigidity, by controlling the catalyst activity by a specified system during the course of the process, in the production of the title copolymer according to a multi-stage polymerization method.
CONSTITUTION: Ethylene (E) is block-copolymerized with propylene (P) in the presence of stereoregular catalyst in at least two connected polymerization tanks. A polymerization at an E/P reaction ration of below 6/94(wt%) is carried out in the manner of continuous polymerization and then a catalyst deactivator (a C-O or C-N bond-containing compound, e.g., ethyl benzoate or triethylamine) is added to a slurry transferred to batchwise polymerization tanks to decrease the catalyst activity to below 1/4 of the activity before the addition. Then, an organoaluminum compound is added to the slurry after the transfer to increase the catalyst activity to at least 1.1 time the activity before the addition. Next, a polymerization reaction at an E/P reaction ratio of 15/85W95/5wt% is carried out batchwise and then the catalyst deactivator is again added to the slurry to decrease the catalyst activity to below 1/2 of the activity before the addition.
