Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a resin excellent in bondability, etc., and suitable as a toner for developing electrostatic latent images, by copolymerizing an aromatic vinyl monomer, a conjugated diene monomer and a specified amount of a polyfunctional vinyl monomer in the presence of a specified amount of a MW modifier.
CONSTITUTION: A terpolymer is produced by copolymerizing (A) 70W98wt% aromatic vinyl monomer (e.g., styrene or vinyltoluene), (B) a conjugated diene monomer (e.g., butadiene or isoprene) and (C) a polyfunctional vinyl monomer (e.g., divinylbenzene or ethylene glycol acrylate) in the presence of (D) a MW modifier (e.g., t-dodecyl mercaptan). The purpose resin is obtained by conducting the polymerization reaction under conditions satisfying relationshipsI, II and III, wherein y (pts.wt.) is an amount of component C, and x (pts.wt.) is an amount of component D, each based on 100pts.wt. of the sum of the monomers.
