Abstract
PURPOSE:To extract multilevel picture areas as half-tone picture areas, by dividing multilevel pictures into small areas and by stubbing dither picture areas by connecting areas which are discriminated as parts of picture and by referring to the threshold level used for making dither. CONSTITUTION:Dithered pictures of multilevel pictures are stored in an image memory 100, and the same dither matrix is stored in a table circuit 106. Then, data of samll areas of 16X16 picture elements of the dither picture in the memory 100 are extracted into a buffer memory 102, and the small areas are discriminated whether they are parts of the picture or not at a picture discriminating circuit 103. The results are written in corresponding bits of a structure file memory 104. Then, a structure file S is produced in the structure file memory 104. Thereafter, a processor 105 performs stubbing of areas by referring to the structure file, and extracts the area of multilevel pictures corresponding to the stubbed area as the half-tone picture area by referring to the memory 100 and circuit 106.
