Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an adhesive composition for polyethylene foam, having improved low-temperature adhesivity and excellent adhesion, applicability and adhesive strength, by using an aqueous dispersion of an ethylene-vinyl ester copolymer having a specific glass transition temperature as a main component.
CONSTITUTION: The objective composition having a glass transition temperature of -5W-40°C is prepared by the emulsion polymerization of, e.g. (A) an acrylic acid ester, etc. and (B) vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, etc. preferably in the presence of (C) polyvinyl alcohol as protective colloid. The ethylene content and the vinyl ester content in the resultant ethylene-vinyl ester polymer is 5W50wt% and 50W95wt%, respectively. If necessary, an aqueous dispersion of other olefin polymer, etc. is mixed and a thickener, a plasticizer, a crosslinking agent such as urea resin, etc. are added thereto.
USE: Bonding of plastic foams such as polystyrene foam, polyurethane foam, etc.
