Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a Doppler flow meter where the error due to speed components in the direction of the radius is reduced, by equalizing angles between the axis of a fluid pipe and two sets of current detectors provided toward the upper stream and the lower stream of the fluid passage. CONSTITUTION:Two sets of supporting material 13 are provided on a fluid passage where a fluid 15 to be measured includng a scattered material 16, and supporting materials 13 are provided with current detectors consisting of ultrasonic oscillators 11 and 11 for transmission and ultrasonic oscillators 12 and 12 for receiving so that lines perpendicular to these current detectors are at angles theta0 to the axis of the fluid passage in the upper stream side and the lower stream side respectively. When fluid velocities at points P1 and P2 are denoted as v1 and v2 respectively and angles to the axis of the fluid passage at points P1 and P2 are denoted as theta1 and theta2, a measured mean DELTAvx of oscillators 11 and 12 which is obtained as a Doppler shift frequency is given by expression 11. When both oscillators 11 and 12 are provided close to each other, components in the direction of the radius at points P1 and P2 are equal to each other, and expression 11 becomes DELTAvx=vcostheta0, and the fluid velocity is measured without the influence of components in the direction of the radius by this expression.
