Abstract

PURPOSE: A high-molecular-weight polymer is treated with superheated steam in the presence of water to remove hard volatile organic liquid from a synthetic resin efficiently.
CONSTITUTION: A high-molecular-weight polymer such as styrene-butadiene copolymer is treated with superheated steam under normal or reduced pressure in the presence of a sufficient amount of water to cause the steam distillation of the hard volatile organic liquid such as monomer or solvent boiling at higher than 100°C under normal pressure, e.g., styrene, toluene or under addition of water in a sufficient amount for steam distillation.
