Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compounds useful an intermediates for a stabilizer of polyvinyl chloride without forming methyl chloride as a by-product, by heating a mixture of dimethyltin dichloride with stannic chloride in a specific proportion in the absence of a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: Dimethyltin dichloride and stannic chloride at a molar ratio between the dimethyltin dichloride and the stannic chloride of 1:0.1W0.7 are heated in the absence of a catalyst at atmospheric pressure or above and 150W250°C to give the aimed compound. In the process, the reaction is carried out in an inert gas, e.g. dried nitrogen, carbon dioxide or air, or an inert solvent, e.g. hep tane, toluene, or xylene, having the boiling point lower than the reaction temperature. The reaction time is preferably 5minW50hr depending on the concentration of the stannic chloride and the reaction temperature.
