Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the boundary contact between molten metal and a recarburizing material and to perform recarburization with high efficiency by providing a perforated cylindrical rising pipe in a perforated vessel pzcked with a recarburizing material, and rotating the same in the molten metal.
CONSTITUTION: A vessel 1a is formed of a refractory material of ceramics or the like having many holes 5 on the side and bottom faces. A cylindrical rising pipe 7 having a suitable number of holes 6 is provided within the vessel 1a, and a recarburising material 2 is packed between the vessel 1a and the pipe 7. An elevator is operated to insert the vessel 1a into molten metal. The vessel 1a is rotated by operating a driving motor 9, and the pressure in the pipe 7 is reduced by centrifugal force, whereby reflowing motion is created in the molten metal so that the recarburization is accomplished by the agitation and contact reaction of the material 2 and the molten metal. By this method the recarburization is accomplished efficiently in a short time.
