Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the size of a welding torch for narrow groove welding and to make the welding of narrow grooves of intricate shapes possible as well by improving the shape of inert gas passages in said torch and disposing cooling water pipes on both sides of a contact tube. CONSTITUTION:The welding wire in a welding torch 1 moves in a contact tube 16, and is supplied through the contact tip 19 of a lower block 20 to the weld zone. Cooling water pipes 15 are disposed on both side parts of the tube 16, and passages 12a, 12b for an inert gas are disposed on both sides thereof. The sectional area of the gas passages is made small to reduce the size of the torch 1. Bent parts 18 are provided in the middle parts of these passages 12a, 12b and since the flow direction of the inert gas of high velocity changes abruptly in these parts, tubulent flow is created. In addition, the velocity of flow of the gas is decreased by the increase in the sectional area of these parts, and the gas is injected at the low velocity through nozzles 17a, 17b to the weld zone, thus the sure welding is made possible in the narrow groove as well.
