Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform the centering of a gripper accurately with respect a load axis by fixing a pair of grippers on a flange after the center thereof is connected to the flange through a flexible connecting rod to provide a tension preload. CONSTITUTION:Both ends of a test piece 1 is grasped with a pair of upper and lower grippers 2a and 2b, which are respectively connected to a pair of gripper mounting flanges 4a and 4b through connecting rods 3a and 3b. The connecting rods 3a and 3b herein used shall be a flexible one with a certain strength made of spring steel or the like. Concave sections are provided in the gripper 2a and the flange 4b and low melting point Wood's metals 5a and 5b are housed therein. Before a test load is given, each flange is driven in the direction of the arrow to provide a tension preload to the test piece 1 through each connecting rod thereby enabling the centering of the grippers 2a and 2b accurately with respect to the load axis. Thereafter, the Wood's metals 5a and 5b are separately cooled and solidified to fix the grippers on the mounting flanges.
