Abstract
PURPOSE:To achieve audio synthesis with high articulation by widening the dynamic range of a composite signal through an expander with nearly complementary characteristics for level compression accompained by frequency characteristics generated in a CODEC. CONSTITUTION:The output of a CODEC on a CVSD system is inputted to an output filter 51 to cut folded distortion, quantization noise, etc., and its output is inputted to a variable gain amplifier 32. The signal from the output filter 51 is also inputted to an high-frequency-range emphasizing circut 53 and on the basis of its output, a level sensor 54 controls the gain of the variable gain amplifier 52; when the level is above some value, an input and an output correspond to each other nearly in 1:1 proportion and when below the value, decibel linear expansion characteristics are provided and while the dynamic range is expanded apparently, the S/N is also improved depending upon the operation point.
