Abstract

PURPOSE:To output an optimum signal independently of types of objectives and to automatically read a zipcode of a mail, by controlling a sampling timing of a sampling hold circuit in accordance with the character region and type on the objective. CONSTITUTION:A mail P carried at the 1st reader 10 of a character reader is scanned, the read output is applied to a discriminating section 30, where character region and types on the mail P are discriminated. From the result of this discrimination, a galva-mirror 27 of the 2nd reader 20 is controlled and the read sight field of the section 20 is set, and the output from the section 20 is inputted to a sample hold circuit 31. In this case, the section 30 gives an instruction to a sampling control circuit 35 that the mail P is a hand written mail, and a sampling pulse corresponding to the character region is inputted to the hole circuit 31 from the circuit 35. The output of the hold circuit 31 is clamped at a clamp circuit 32, the output is processed at a signal processing circuit 33 and an optimum signal is outputted.
