Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve coupling with a peripheral device with one kind of interface, by enabling one host computer out of two host computers to make transmission and reception of data with the peripheral device via an accessory device. CONSTITUTION:Taking data on a bus 11 as 7-bit and data on buses 9 and 10 as 16-bit, an adaptor 6 changes 7-bit data received from the bus 11 into 16-bit data and transmits the data to the bus 10. The data received from the bus 10 is converted into 7-bit data and transmitted to the bus 11. Thus, the buses 9 and 10 are of the same specifications, and a peripheral device 7 can make transmission and reception of data without distinguishing the coupling from direct coupling (coupling with a host computer 1) or communication line coupling (coupling with a host computer 2). In the computer 2, a display device and the like is used as the peripheral device and other symbols than characters may be used. Thus, the device 6 has two modes, and the 1st mode is used in case of transmission and reception of characters only and the 2nd mode is used when data other than the characters are used.
