Abstract
PURPOSE:To attempt to improve the exhaust purification efficiency of an internal combustion engine by introducing air into the exhaust during acceleration so that air fuel ratio is shifted nearly to the theoretical ratio as well as purifying said exhaust by the use of platinum paradium catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Platinum-palladium (Pt-Pd) catalyst is charged in exhaust purification converter 62 in which the exhaust from engine 60 is introduced through exhaust pipe 61, and oxygen senser 73 is equipped in exhaust pipe 61. An electronic control unit 70 which controls fuel injection valve 72, detects the acceleration state and sends signals to exhaust purification air valve 74 is also provided. When the oxygen sensor 73 detects the oxygen concentration in exhaust, the fuel injection valve is controlled by the control unit 70 so that the concentration becomes about zero. While, in acceleration state, the control unit 70 detects it, sends the signal to the air valve 74 and introduces a prescribed amount of air into exhaust so that air excess ratio in the exhaust is adjusted to be 1.0. Thus harmful components in the exhaust can be purified at high efficiency.
