PURPOSE:To achieve recording without deteriorating chroma signals on a magnetic tape with improved high frequency characteristics, by converting the chroma signal into a specific frequency signal. CONSTITUTION:The frequency of a chroma signal is converted into a frequency within 1.4-2.8MHz and at (2n+1)/2Xfh (where; fh is horizontal frequency). After mixing a luminance signal to the converted chroma signal, a carrier signal is frequency-modulated with the mixed signal. Next, the frequency modulated wave is recorded on a magnetic tape having improved high frequency characteristics, i.e., the recorded band has the characteristics 11 in 0.5-8MHz. Since the frequency of the chroma signal is converted, the band required for recording is at 0.5-8MHz and this is coincident with the characteristics 11 of the tape. Thus, a recording can be achieved without deteriorating the chroma signals.
