Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the liquid quantity with high accuracy by small number of lead wires by a method wherein a group of fixed electrodes coded according to the change of the liquid quantity of an internal combustion engine or the like are provided and the change of the liquid quantity is lead out as the coded signal of plural bits. CONSTITUTION:A group 1 of contact electrodes has the contact electrodes 1a-1d. A group 2 of fixed electrodes is composed of the first row electrode 2a, the second row electrode 2b, the third row electrode 2c and the fourth row electrode 2d which have contact portions with which respective electrodes 1a-1d get contact. The respective electrodes composes the number of rows corresponding to respective bits of the binary signal and the electrodes 2a-2d correspond to 2<0>-2<3> bits respectively. The contact portion of each electrode is arranged to the position where the signal of each bit shall be produced and the arrangement is such that the changing characteristic of the number of rows which is expressed in accordance with the movement of the electrode group 1 which interlocks with the movement of the float is proportional to the liquid quantity. The electrode group 1 is grounded and the binary output signal from the electrodes 2a-2d can be indicated by an indicator 4 via a decoder 3 corresponding to the contact situation of the electrode group 2 and the electrode group 1.
