Abstract

PURPOSE:To utilize horizontal resolution up to the limit of the number of picture elements of a solid image pickup element which has horizontal arrays of picture elements differening in space phase, by arranging plural kinds of striped color filters, capable of pass different color lights through them, on the solid- state image pickup element. CONSTITUTION:A striped color filter is constituted by arranging an R filter 401 which permits red color light to pass through it, a G filter 402 which permits green light to pass through it, and a CY filter 403 which permits part of green light and blue light to pass through it sucessively and repeatedly in a horizontal direction. This stripped color filter is arranged on a solid image pickup element of offset arrangement having a 90 deg. space phase difference in horizontal array of picture elements (photodiode 404). The horizontal repetitive period of the pucture elements and that of one of color filters, e.g., the R filter 401 are so related that the space frequency of the picture elements is double as high as that of the color filters. Thus, horizontal resolution determined by the number of picture elements is utilized at its maximum.
