Abstract

PURPOSE: The emulsion copolymerization of perfluoroacrylic acid or its derivative is conducted by allowing its copolymerization to follow home polymerization of another fluorine-containing polymerizable monomer to give a copolymer.
CONSTITUTION: At least one of fluorine-containing monomers other than perfluoroacrylic acid or its derivatives such as tetralfluoroethylene is polymerized. At the start or after continuation for a certain time of the polymerization, perfluoroacrylic acid or its derivative such as perfluoroacrylic acid is added, further, a radical polymerization initiator and, when necessary, a polymerization degree regulator are added to effect the copolymerization at about 30W120°C. When the reaction pressure begins to drop, a prescribed amount of a fluorine- containing polymerizable monomer is added to continue the polymerization until the pressure comes down to about 10kg/cm2. At this point, the reaction is stopped to give the objective copolymer.
EFFECT: The reaction heat is easily removed, posttreatment is not needed and the polymerization rate is high.
