CONSTITUTION:A processor CPU checks the control signals from a character processing interface WPI and a flag FG, changes the contents of the flag FG when the printing is performed in the reverse direction, and winds the ink ribbon 2 in the printing direction along which the printing is to be made based on the predetermined quantity of the film usage. Then a thermal head 5 is moved to a printing position by a motor 16, compressed to recording paper 22 by a plunger 23. The head is moved in the printing direction so that the relative speed of the ink speed and the recording paper becomes zero. The amount of usage of the ink ribbon is inputted to a register CR.
