Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce the titled polymer having excellent physical properties, by a method wherein an aq. emulsion of a chlorosulfonated ethylene polymer is mixed dropwise with an aq. soln, of an anionic high-molecular compd.
CONSTITUTION: Water and 11W30pts.wt. cationic surfactant (e.g., polyoxylene tallow propylenediamine) are added to a halogen-contg. org. solvent soln. contg. 100pts.wt. chlorosulfonated ethylene polymer having a chlorine content of 10W60% and a sulfur content of 0.5W4% obtd. by the chlorosulfonation reaction of an ethylene polymer by a soln. method. The polymer is emulsified in water by using an emulsifier. The resulting emulsion is contacted with steam under reduced pressure to remove the org. solvent. Then the emulsion is mixed dropwise with an aq. soln. of 0.5W10pts.wt. water-soluble anionic high-molecular compd. (e.g., gum arabic) dissolved in 100W2,000pts.wt. water to separate the chlorosulfonated ethylene polymer in powdered form. Then the powdered polymer is dehydrated and dried at 50°C or lower until the content of volatile matter becomes 1% or lower.
