Abstract

PURPOSE:To ensure a stable detection and measurement of ions by trapping the ion output from the solvent or carrier gas and eliminating the influence of the ion output while compensating for the fluctuation of measured ion output using the trapped ion output from the solvent or the carrier gas. CONSTITUTION:A liquid specimen L separated by a liquid chromatograph and con taining a solvent is introduced into the ionization section 3 of a mass analyzer 2, and is emitted therefrom as suitably accelerated ions I. These ions are made to pass a magnetic field 4 and separated along ion tracks corresponding to M/Z(mass/charge) ratios. The separated ions are then directed to ion detectors C1, C2 and C3. The ion detector C1 is adapted to trap the ion from the solvent, while the ion detector C2 is adapted to detect the ion from the measuring object. The ion detector C3 is intended for trapping ions of measuring objects of a wide range of M/Z ratio. The output signals from respective ion detectors are delivered to a signal processing section 5 in which the fluctuation of ion singnals from the ion detector C2 or C3 is corrected making use of the solvent ion signal from the detector C1 or C4, thereby to stably obtain a signal representative of the ion of the specimen.
