Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect hemolysis, by a method wherein a serum carrying tube consisting of a clear material is connected to a serum suction nozzle, and photo detectors are mounted to the forward end of the nozzle and in the middle of the tube. CONSTITUTION:Blood, put in a test tube, is separated into a blood clot and serum by a centrifugal separation or other methods. A nozzle 704 for distilling the serum and an optical fiber 706 for detecting a boundary between the blood clot and serum are monolithically installed in parallel. A tube 716 made of a light-transmitting material for carrying the sucked serum is coupled to the nozzle 704. A luminous diode 720 having a luminous wave length of 550-585<nm> and a light receiving means 722 are mounted in the middle of the tube 716 to detect the degree of hemolysis (hemoglobin) without being influences by bilirubin contained in the serum. Finally, in order to detect a boundary between chyle or blood clot and serum, a luminous diode 710 and light receiving element 712 are located at the optical fiber 706.
