Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform the key coupling without stopping the main shaft, by stopping a tool exchange arm momently when inserting a tool into the main shaft while releasing said momental stopage by utilizing the rotation of the main shaft thus engaging the key in the main shaft and the key groove. CONSTITUTION:Upon the tool exchange command, the main shaft 11 will rotate with the speed predetermined for the key coupling. Then the tool T is pulled from the main shaft 11 by means of a tool exchange arm 13. Since the tool T is dismounted from the key 35 of the main shaft 11, the rotation is stopped quickly by the holding force of the exchange arm 13 thus to hold the key groove 18 in the tool T at the predetermined angular position. Thereafter the exchange arm 13 is swinged to insert a new tool T into the insertion hole 11a in the main shaft 11. Here the operating board 70 fixed to the main shaft 11 will be engaged with an engaging rod 68 thereby the positioning of the key groove 18 and the key 35 can be confirmed and the key groove 18 in the tool T can engage with the key 35 of the main shaft 11. Consequently the reliable key coupling can be performed even during the rotation of the main shaft.
