Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a membrane for separtion of gases having superior gas separating performance by using a thin film of polymethyl methacrylate.
CONSTITUTION: A soln. of polymethyl methacrylate is coated on a base material such as microporous polymethyl pentene-1 or the like and is dried, or a monomer of methyl methacrylate is coated on the base material and is polymerized to a thin film, whereby the thin film of polymethyl methacrylate is produced. The membrane obtained in this way has superior performance in separation of hydrocarbon and H2, separation of He from natural gases contg. He, separation of He from a gaseous mixture of air and He, etc.
