Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain powder which can maintain magnetic characteristics of high performance for a long time despite high temps. and high humidity by using cured silicone varnish for films to be applied on the surfaces of ferromagnetic metallic powder in order to impart oxidation resistance to the powder. CONSTITUTION:Needlelike ferromagnetic metallic powder of <=1mum length such as Fe, Co, Fe-Ni, Co-Ni or the like is wetted in a non-oxidative gaseous atmosphere by using a soln. prepd. by dissolving silicone varnish in a solvent inert to said powder. The metallic powder wetted sufficiently with the soln. is heated in said atmosphere to allow the solvent to evaporate and to cure silicone varnish. The silicone varnish used here is various kinds of modified silicone varnish such as general-puspose methyl or phenyl methyl silicone varnish, or silicone alkyd, silicone epoxy, etc. with further reduced having drying temp. and improved solvent resistance.
