PURPOSE:To manufacture a durable die that gives soft metal drawing products excellent in surface luster by dispersing flocculated material of primary particles of ZrO2 powder containing a specified quantity of Y2O3, calcining after pressure forming, and polishing the face of the sintered body on which the drawn wire passes. CONSTITUTION:Flocculated mateial of primary particles of ZrO2 powder containing 3.6-8.0wt% Y2O3 and having <=0.5mu average crystal diameter is dispersed by wet grinding and dried to made powder for forming. Or, the size of the powder for forming is further adjusted when necessary. This powder for forming is formed to a specified shape by pressure of >=500kg/cm<2>, worked to the form of a dies nib, and die material for drawing is obtained by calcining it at 1,400- 1,800 deg.C in the atmosphere. Next, a die for drawing soft metal is manufactured by polishing the face on which drawn material passes. To obtain a die of higher density, it is desirable to make hot isostatic pressing after calcining in the atmosphere.
