Light from a light emitting element 15 is projected on two pieces 23a at right angles, transmitted in the cantilever 11 by repeated nearly-total reflection, and emitted from two pieces of a wedge 23b to reach photodetecting elements 16a and 16b. When the cantilever 11 slants as shown by the arrow A as the video disk 1 rotates, the quantity of light incident to the photodetecting elements 16a and 16b varies. The output voltages of the photodetecting elements 16a and 16b are applied to a comparator 17, and their difference in output voltage is applied through a low-pass filter 18 and a hysteresis comparator 19 to a motor driving circuit 20 which controls the turning speed, etc., of an arm leading motor 21.
