Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the carburizing phenomenon of metallic parts and to elongate the life of a sealing jig made of graphite by forming silicon carbide layers on the surfaces of at least parts f the jig contacting with the metallic parts.
CONSTITUTION: A sealing jig 40a is composed of a jig body 41 made of graphite and a bottom plate 42 made of graphite. The body 41 has a recess 43 in which metallic outer ring 1 can be inserted at the upper part and a lead wire inserting hole 44 at the center of the bottom, and an SiC layer 45 is formed on the whole surface of the body 41. The whole surface of the bottom plate 42 is also coated with an SiC layer 46, and the plate 42 is united with the body 41 by means of pins. The ring 1 is inserted in the recess 43, a cylindrical glass tablet 20 is inserted in the ring 1, and a lead wire 3 is inserted in the hole 44 through the central hole 21 of the tablet 20. By heating the whole jig, the tablet 20 is melted to bond the molten glass 2 to the ring 1 and the wire 3, and the jig is cooled. At this time, since the layers 45, 46 exist, no carbon is liberated from the jig 40a, and the carburizing of the ring 1 and the wire 3 can be prevented.
