Abstract

PURPOSE: To economically recover bromine from brine contg. free bromine by treating the brine with a strongly basic anion exchange resin to allow the bromine to be adsorbed and treating the resin with water, steam, etc.
CONSTITUTION: Brine contg. 1W15g/l free bromine is brought into contact with a strongly basic anion exchange resin such as anionic quat. ammonium resin at 1.0W40°C to allow the bromine to be adsorbed on the resin. The resin is then brought into contact with 1/5W5 times as much water as the resin by vol., well dehydrated, and broughtinto contact with steam at 60W130°C to recover the bromine by desorption. Prior to the contact with steam, the resin may be brought into contact with heated air.
