Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a ribbon life detecting system being simple and effective, by a method wherein a control unit of a printer apparatus counts the number of printed letters or the like from the beginning of ribbon use, and alarm is generated when the counted value becomes equal to a prescribed life value. CONSTITUTION:Life of a ribbon corresponding to use condition is estimated previously, and a system body 10 within a printer apparatus 12 of electronic calculating system counts the number of printed lines, letters or pages from the beginning of ribbon use. When the counted value exceeds a prescribed value (for example 1,000 thousand letters assumed as life of printed letters of the ribbon), alarm is indicated on a console 11 or transmitted to the printer apparatus 12. When the ribbon is changed and a control unit within the printer apparatus 12 detects the ribbon changing, the control unit counts the number of printed letters from the beginning.
