Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce an electrode material which is little deteriorated with the lapse of time and is used for external electrodes for glow discharge lamps, miniature lamps or the like by using a solder containing a specified amount of Sn.
CONSTITUTION: The external electrode for glow discharge lamps, miniature lamps or the like which is produced by using a solder having a composition of 92W98wt% Pb and 8W2wt% Sn is hardly encountered with poor-contact problems when it is used for a long period of time. The cause of the poor contact is the film of an oxide of Pb and those of Sulfides of Sn and Pb formed on the external electrode. The solder having the composition specified above undergoes oxidation and sulfurization, but it does not present the poor contact. Accordingly, the electrode material endures long-term use and, even when the material becomes deteriorated so that a lamp cannot be turned on, the material can be reused by polishing the corroded part with an abrasive paper.
