Abstract

PURPOSE:A so called HN-type image pickup tube in which a negatively charged photoconductive target is scanned by high-velocity electron beams, especially, a photoconductive image pickup tube which is prepared by installing metal meshes and collector electrodes on the electron beam scanning side of a negatively charged photoconductive target. CONSTITUTION:After a n type transparent electrode layer 52 is formed on a glass surface plate 51, a thin p<+> type layer 53, a p type layer 54 and a n type layer 55 are formed, in that order, over the layer 53 by vapor deposition, thus a photoconductive layer is formed. A target 23 prepared by forming an n<+> type block layer 56 by vapor deposition is provided on the photoconductive layer. Metal meshes 24 and collector electrodes are installed on the electron beam scanning side of the target 23. The block layer is preferred to be prepared from a ZnTe or CdTe plate of 20-2,000Angstrom thickness. The resistivity of the block layer preferably is adjusted to 10<8>-10<12>OMEGA.
