Abstract
PURPOSE:To equalize pressing force applied to a packing in each stage of a device and increase its sealing effect, by successively jointing neighboring packing elements with their protruded part and hollowed part and providing a larger gap between the packing elements in the packing at a higher pressure side. CONSTITUTION:A packing element 9 is formed with a protrusion 9a in its one end and a hollow 9b in the other end. Then the protrusion 9a in one of the neighboring packing elements 9 is overlapped to enter the hollow 9b of the neighboring packing element 9, thus successively the elements are annularly jointed together. In this case, a gap g is circumferentially left between end faces of the two neighboring packings, simultaneously sealing length h is peripherally ensured by overlapping the protrusion 9a and the hollow 9b on each other. Then the gap g is arranged larger further with the sealing length h smaller for the packing built in the packing chamber at the high pressure side, while the gap g is formed smaller with the sealing length h larger for that built in the packing chamber at the low pressure side.
