PURPOSE:To exactly erase the charge of an unimaged part, by providing a means for condensing a light beam from a luminous body extending over almost overall width of a photoreceptor, in the advancing direction of the photoreceptor. CONSTITUTION:To a charge erasing device 13, an EL lamp 13a and a semi- cylindrical lens 13b are installed in one body, and a light generated from the EL lamp 13 is condensed in the advancing direction of a photoreceptor 7a. An LED array and other light source can be used for the EL lamp. The cylindrical lens 13b is formed by a plastic material or glass, whose optical transmittivity is high, and its shape can be made aspherical. According to such a constitution, said light beam is condensed in the advancing direction of the photoreceptor and also is irradiated as a light beam extending vertically and long in the advancing direction of the photoreceptor. Accordingly, when the timing for turning on and off the EL lamp is controlled, the unimaged part is discharged exactly by a quick response. It is also possible to use that which has arrayed plural LEDs on the LED array substrate.
