Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the deflection of an electron beam by the intrinsic magnetic field and to form a weld zone of superior reliability in a material to be welded with an accelerated electron beam by earthing the material to be welded and keeping the direction of earth current constant. CONSTITUTION:Objects 1a, 1b to be welded with an electron beam 5 are insulated from a jig 2 by means of insulators 3a and 3b, and earth blocks 4a and 4b moving in such a way as to assume constant positions relatively with the irradiation position of the beam 5 are mounted and these are earthed. In the state of welding the objects 1a and 1b with the beam 5, the current by the beam 5 flows to the moving blocks 4a and 4b, and only the electrons transmitted through the objects 1a and 1b flow as electric current to the jig 2. Since the blocks 4a and 4b move symmetrically with the movement of the welding position, the deflection of the beam does not change irrespectively of the progression of welding; therefore the deviation of the beam from the weld zone and the formation of defective weld zones are obviated.
