Abstract

PURPOSE: A fluorine polymer resin is melt-extruded through a specifically structured spinneret and taken up under cooling to produce a novel fiber that has changes in cross section in the lengthwise direction and gives woven or other fabrics with good luster and high bulkiness.
CONSTITUTION: A melted resin of fluorine polymer such as polytetrafluoroethylene is melt-extruded through a spinneret with a number of fine slits wherein intermittent projections are provided between adjacent slits and the melted polymer extruded through the depression zones between the projections can come and go with each other. And a cooling fluid is supplied to the surface of the spinneret and in the neighborhood to cool the extruded filaments, thus the extruded polymer is converted into a number of separated fine fibrous streams and solidified to a bundle of fiber that has periodical changes in cross section along the lengthwise direction and a variation coefficient in cross section of 0.05W1.00.
