Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform precision vibration measurement without the influence of the magnetic fields and electric fields of the outside by converting vibrations to optical signals through utilization of the optical properties in the opening part of an optical fiber, leading these to the outside with the optical fiber and converting the same to electric signals. CONSTITUTION:Light from a light source 10 arrives at a reflection plate 5 installed to a mass-spring system via a fiber 7 for light projection, and the light reflected there is made incident to a photodetector 11 via a fiber 7 for photodetection. The distance from the opening face of the optical fiber up to the reflection face is beforehand so set as to come to the mid-point y2 of y1 and y3 in the static state of a weight 2. When vibrations are applied upon a vessel 1, the weight 2 acts as an immobile point, and the distance from the plate 5 up to the opening face of the optical fiber changes in accordance with vibrations and therefore the quantity of light proportional to the amplitude of the vibrations is obtained in the fiber 7. The quantity of the optical beam is converted to an electric signal by a photodetector 11 and this signal is applied via an amplifier 12 to an indicating meter 13, whereby the quantity of the vibrations is measured.
