Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce load exerted on a paper feeding mechanism while simplifying its structure and permitting great reduction in its size by a construction wherein the the paper feeding mechanism comprises a paper feeding roller wherein high coefficient of friction and a paper holding means including no roller, and both the roller and means are not brought into contact with each other while paper is not yet inserted. CONSTITUTION:Paper 13 is pressed upon a roller 10 of a paper feeding roller 8 by a paper holding means 12 and then sent in the direction as shown by an arrow along with rotation of the roller 8 due to friction between the paper 13 and the roller 10. At this time, there exerts frictional load on the paper 13 and the paper holding means 12, but the respective coefficients of friction mu1 between the paper 13 and the roller 13 and mu2 between the paper 13 and the paper holding means 12 are selected to be mu1>mu2 (e.g., mu1=0.5-1.5, mu2=0.05-0.15), so that the paper 13 may be fed by the roller 8 without being stopped by the paper holding means 12. While paper is not yet inserted, bifurcated projections 12b, 12c of the paper holding means 12 come into contact with a shaft 9 of the roller 8 and load is exerted on the roller 8. But, the coefficient of friction between the bifurcated projections 12b, 12c and the shaft 9 of the roller 8 is very small, so that load exerted on the drive section will become extremely small.
