Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a reproduced signal with an excellent S/N ratio by utilizing a change in plane of polarization with the polarization of a dielectric with regard to the reflected light of laser light with which an electrostatic recording medium is irradiated. CONSTITUTION:On a dielectrostatic recording medium 21, a signal is recorded in the form of variation in polarization. The recording surface is irradiated with laser beam 22 processed by direct polarization 23. Its reflected light passed through a half-mirror 24 is extracted by a photodetector 26 through a polarizer 25. Laser beam incident to a recording medium 21 changes in plane of polarization with the polarization of the recording medium 21, so a signal output which corresponds to the change in plane of polarization is obtained. Since reproduction is performed by using a fine beam of laser beam, high-density recording and reproduction are enabled and the reproduction from the reocrding medium is performed without contacting, so no static electricity due to friction is generated, so that a reproduced signal has an excellent S/N ratio.
