Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an ion-permeable amphoteric composite membrane having excellent ion permeability, by reacting a thin layer composed of a specified amino group-contg. polymer formed on a porous support with a polyfunctional aromatic compd. interfacially.
CONSTITUTION: A thin layer composed of an amino group-contg. polymer contg. 1.0W23meq/g prim. and/or sec. amino groups and 0W18 meq/g tert. and/ or ammonium salt groups and having total amino eq between 2.0 and 23 meq/ g, is formed on a porous support. Next, the resulting layer is reacted interfacially with a polyfunctional aromatic compd, having two or more functional such as carbonyl halide, sulfonyl halide or carboxylic anhydride. The surface of the thin layer composed of an active amino group-contg. polymer is thus cross- linked, and the cross-linked area forms an ion-permeable amphoteric composite membrane contg. a structural unit of the formula[wherein Ar is an aromatic ring, Y is =CO or -SO2-, (m+n+1)Ys may be the same or different, M is an atom or atomic group dissociable as a cation, m and n are integers of 0 or more, and m+n=1W3].
