Abstract

PURPOSE: Ions are injected into the glass surfaces as the concentration is being changed to obtain the effect of differing haze locally.
CONSTITUTION: At least one of ions of N, Si, or B is injected into the surface of inorganic glass with an ion-implantation unit at a concentration of 1×1013W5×1017 ion/cm2, as the concentration is being changed place by place. The resultant haze of the glass differs with the amount of te ions. For example, N ions are jetted into the whole area of one surface of a glass plate by about 5×1016ion/cm2, then into the other surfaces of A through D by about 5×1016, 5×1015 and 1×1014 respectively. The surface E is not poured. On every injection, the surface was partially masked. When the resultant glass plate is made cloud, parts C through E becomes cloudy, however, part B becomes less cloudy and part A is kept transparent.
