Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the temp. drop in corner parts by coolking the parts for unsolidified length where the growrh of shells is slow, and removing cooling water from the parts where the shells have grown sufficiently in a titled cooling process. CONSTITUTION:In cooling a slab 1, spray water colliding areas 6 are disposed in such a manner that cooling water is thoroughly sprayed on both long and short sides because internal solidification has not progressed in the upper part of cooling zones shown in (a). In the stage where the solidification in the inside on the short side of the intermediate part of (b) is more progressed, the spraying on the short side is stopped, and the elliptical spray water colliding areas 6' near the corners on the long side are inclined to limit the water spray to the corner parts. Next, in the lower part of the cooling zones shown by (c), only the central parts on the long side are cooled, whereby desired solidification by minimum required cooling intensity and cooling capacity, and the holding of the sensible heat to be carried to the next process are satisfied simultaneously.
