Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:The trihaloacrylaldehyde of formulaI(X is Cl or Br).
EXAMPLE: 2-Bromo-1,2-diiodoacrylaldehyde.
USE: Vermin repellent esp. useful to cockroach, mosquito, fly, etc.
PROCESS: The trihaloacrylaldehyde of formulaIis prepared by reacting propargyl alcohol with chlorine or bromine in the presence of an alkali to afford monohalopropargyl alcohol, reacting the product with iodine, and oxidizing the resultant trihaloacryl alcohol of formula II.
