Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent liquid junction between cells by providing a liquid reservoir with a controllable exhaust at an electrolyte outlet of each cell of an electrolyte circulating type battery and exhausting the electrolyte intermittnetly in response to signals from a liquid level detector of the liquid reservoir. CONSTITUTION:A liquid reservoir 6 with an exhaust 7 is provided at an lectrolyte outlet of cells a, a', which are composed of a zinc electrode 1, an air electrode 2, and a charging spplementary electrode 3 and a separator 4 both located between them. Liquid level upper-lower limit detectors 8, 9 are provided in the liquid reservoir to control the opening and closing of a solenoid valve 10, and a circulating pump 11 supplies the electrolyte in a tank 12 to this zinc-air battery. Therefore, when the electrolyte is sent to the liquid reservoir 6 to raise the liquid level to its upper limit the solenoid valve 10 is opened, and when the liquid level reaches its lower limit the solvenoid valve 10 is closed, thus exhausting the electrolyte intermittently. Accordingly, the solneoid valves 10 of both cells are opened simultaneously for only a short time, and liquid junction is prevented effectively.
