Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable to take long strides in improving the cooling efficiency of the cooler and reduce the amount of water necessary for cooling by a method wherein the air is cooled by direct contact cooling system and the amount of water contacting with the air is controlled by the temperature signal from the cooled air at the device for cooling high temperature dry air.

CONSTITUTION: A part of the cooling water stored in a water storage tank 3 is absorbed through the cooling water contact part of a water absorber 4 owing to the capillary action of the water absorber itself 4 and the whole surface of the water absorber 4 absorbs the water with the circling movement driven by a driving motor 6, resulting in realizing the state holding a large amount of water therein. At this time, the material to be cooled or high temperature dry air A is led through an inlet louvre 8 into an air cooling space 2 and contacts, when passing through the surface of the water absorber 4, with the cooling water of the water absorber 4, resulting in being cooled and discharged. The motor 6 is controlled by the detection signal of the temperature of said discharged air with a detector 12 so as to increase or decrease the amount of water to absorb or to hold of the water absorber 4, resulting in obtaining the desired discharge temperature.
