Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a polyethylene pipe highly resistant to water containing halogen, by carrying out the molding of a blend of polyethylene and a medium- low-pressure ethylene copolymer from ethylene and a specific α-olefin.
CONSTITUTION: The objective polyethylene pipe can be manufactured by blending (A) 95W50wt% of polyethylene with (B) pref. 10W30wt% of an ethylene-α-olefin copolymer (the number of carbon atoms of the α-olefin is preferably 6W18; e.g. 1-butene) prepared through a medium-low-pressure process followed by carrying out a molding operation. Preferable values of some parameters are as follows: (1) denstity; component (A) ...ca. 0.915W0.930g/cm3, component (B)... ibid., (2) melt index; component (A)...≤1, component (B)... 0.5W3.0, (3)α-olefin content. component (B)...1.5W10.0mol% (4) melt flow ratio; final product...20W70.
