Abstract

PURPOSE:To monitor the operation of a phase shifter, by using a ferrite phase shifter for the phase shifter scanning the beam of an electronic scanning antenna for radar and providing a diode illuminated with the energizing current of the phase shifter. CONSTITUTION:Microwaves for a transmitter or a receiver 5 are split with a feeding system 4, subjected to a prescribed phase shift, and radiated to free space with each element antenna 2. The energizing phase of the antenna 2 scanning the angle thetas of a reception or transmission beam of an antenna 1 in y-x plane, is given from a ferrite phase shifter 3 via a phase shifter driving unit 6 for the control signal from a beam steering computer 7. An external magnetic field is applied to the phase shifter 3 with a control current flowing to an energizing coil 9 provided at the external side of a rectangular waveguide 8, the effective magnetic permeability of a ferrite core 8 is changed for a prescribed phase shift. A light emitting diode 10 which shows a suitable light emitting quantity according to the current flowing to a coil 9, is provided to monitor the phase shifter 3.
