Abstract
PURPOSE:To ensure the quick and automatic measurement of a bar stock, by carrying out an internal quality inspection of a bar steel by an ultrasonic flaw detector while rotating the bar steel and at the same time measuring consecutively the form of the bar steel. CONSTITUTION:A trigger generator 7 is driven by a clock pulse generator 5, and an ultrasonic beam is made incident vertically to a bar stock 1 from a probe 2. The beam is reflected on the surface and the bottom surface of the stock 1 to produce a surface echo 3a and a bottom surface echo 3b, respectively. The number of clock pulses convering from the echo 3a to the echo 3b is counted by a counter 9. Then the diameter of the stock 1 is obtained from the count value of the pulses plus the propagating speed of the ultrasonic beam into the stock 1 and by means of an operator 10. Furthermore, the maximum value, the minimum value and the deviation are calculated for the diameter of the stock 1 at every rotation to be displayed at a display divice 11.
